Thornton House Facilities
Five
large bedrooms, formal dining room, a large kitchen and common room, a spacious
deck, and a large back yard with a variety of interesting plantings -including
one of the oldest Tamarack Pines in Iowa. Most rooms enjoy views of the town
below and surrounding bluffs. For the daily full breakfast served 8:00 am
through 9:30 am, home made jams are provided along with home made breads or
scones. What makes our buffet-style breakfast tastefully different is that
in addition to the help yourself buffet of scones, cheesy scrambled eggs and
fresh fruit, we also offer a main dish such as a spiral cut ham with brown
sugar and sherry glaze and Amish wood fired raisin bread made as french toast-
a house favorite. Come prepared to eat!
Our central location is within a 5 minute walk of downtown shops, restaurants and grocery stores as well as the Lansing swimming pool and other attractions such as the Mt. Hosmer summit with excellent hiking trails and Mississippi River valley vistas of Minnesota and Wisconsin from it's peak. Within a 10 minute walk of Thornton House you can be at the Mississippi RIver's edge where you can enjoy more shopping, fishing, swimming as well as riverboat excursions.
The bathrooms contain a hairdryer, towels, soaps, shampoos, conditioner and even a sewing kit for your convenience.
The Thornton House B&B is located in a mature neighborhood and is perched on a bluff where you can see the city of Lansing , Iowa and the magnificant upper Mississippi River from many rooms in the house. The yard is filled with flowers, mature shrubs and trees.
Additionally, we also offer lodging at the 'Thornton House Cottage' which is also located in Lansing and sits along the Mississippi River. The cottage is planted with mature perennial gardens and offers lodging for four with 2 bedrooms and a comfortable two story 8'x17' porch a stone's throw from The Big River.
